The Department of Human Services is responsible for an appropriated budget of sixteen million dollars, funding services to residents of nursing homes, the disabled, and the elderly.

Intermediate Nursing Care pays for the Medicaid eligible services provided to residents of private nursing homes as well as the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

Grant funds are awarded by the Rockingham County Commissioners to prevention programs which serve as an alternative to involvement in the juvenile justice system.  These grants are awarded several times throughout the year.

Outreach Programs

Adult Diversion Program ...provides an alternative sentencing option to young first time offenders in the criminal justice system.  Misdemeanor and Felony Cases are referred from District and Superior Courts upon agreement of the prosecutor and defense counsel, and if participants successfully complete the six to twelve month pre-trial program, it is recommended to the respective Court that the case(s) be dismissed or nolle prossed without a conviction.
